ABOUT PATRICIA MULHOLLAND

- Music Therapist

Patricia MulhollandPatricia Mulholland, MA, MT-BC, NMT, graduated from the Music Therapy program at Berklee College of Music, completed her internship with Seasons Hospice of Massachusetts, and obtained certification in Neurologic Music Therapy at Colorado State University. She has offered music therapy to patients with dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, ALS, cancer, COPD, Parkinson’s disease and other terminal illnesses. She has experience in the psychiatric setting and has worked with developmentally challenged and hospitalized children. Patricia set up a pilot music therapy pilot program at the Kitty Dukakis Residential Treatment Center for Women and works with women of varying ages — in clinical and wellness settings — using voice as a therapeutic modality.

Patricia is passionate about establishing Music Therapy and frequently presents to healthcare organizations to educate her audience and advocate for the profession. She has collaborated with the Maine Alzheimer’s Association and provides music therapy in a number of healthcare facilities and in her private studio.

While a student at Berklee, Patricia was awarded an achievement scholarship, a Project Grant from the American Association of University Women, and the distinguished Gary Burton Scholarship. She was among the winners of two Songwriting competitions for songs in her Emily Dickinson Song Cycle: “A Solitude of Space.” She brings her love of poetry, improvising and composing to her work with clients and their families. Over the years, she has studied with master teachers David Darling, Bobby McFerrin, Rhiannon, Louise Montello, Lisa Thorson, Claude Stein, and members of the Roy Hart Theatre. Her CD, “Coming Home”, is a compilation of known and original music.

Patricia brings to her role of music therapist over 25 years of experience as a training consultant in leadership development with The Ariel Group, a Boston based company known for its methodology defined by theater arts. She has worked with business leaders in academic and corporate settings from the halls of Harvard Business School to Fortune 500 companies across the globe. Her career includes three years as Director of Curriculum for The Saltwater Institute, the foundation created by Tom’s of Maine co-founder Tom Chappell. Patricia also offers private coaching in voice and presentation skills.

Patricia has been adjunct faculty at Maine College of Art and is a guest artist/lecturer at Berklee. She is the author of “The Singing Voice: Music Therapy Applications in Medical and Psychodynamic Settings,” “Music Therapy: The Meeting of Science and Art,” and a book review of Essential Musical Intelligence. In addition to a B.A. in Music Therapy, Patricia holds a B.A. in English from Auburn University and a M.A. in Performance Studies from Northwestern University.
